I ended up in the small but extremely pleasant Fortuna CA for a few days as an attendee of the Fortuna Rodeo. While my stomach space was typically occupied with pancake breakfast, pit beef BBQs, and the Eel River Brewery, I did find time to stop by Taco Loco, a shop right on the town's main street. While the tacos were expensive ($2.25), it's not a bad deal for a sit-down style establishment where you get chips and a nice tomato-y salsa.

I just got 1 asada taco, which came out loaded with cilantro, onions, and salsa. Like many North Coast establishments I visited, there was no salsa bar, so I was left to enjoy the taco as it was presented to me. The meat had a strange, unsettling flavor to it, though it wasn't necessarily bad; to say it was reminiscent of dog food would probably give the wrong impression, but that's what I thought at the time. But USA dogs eat better than lots of third-world citizens, right? My friend got the chile colorado burrito and reports were that it was excellent. Overall, Fortuna is definitely worth a stop during rodeo week, and you could do a lot worse than Taco Loco.
